GOAL

Operating as Waterloo EMC Services, my goal is to assist designers in achieving compliance with the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Regulations (both for EMISSIONS, the potential to cause interference, and IMMUNITY, the ability to resist interference and operate correctly) that exist throughout the world, and allow them to market their products in as many countries as possible.

Ultimately, a solution that is designed with EMC in mind at the beginning will pass the first time that it is tested, and be cost effective since additional shielding materials, ferrite beads, and intricate manufacturing processes will not be necessary.

 

EXPERIENCE

· 15 years of electronics and systems design experience at NCR in Waterloo

· 20 years of EMC experience at NCR assisting in the design of  banking equipment for sale around the world, and ensuring that the necessary regulations were followed.

 

RELATED ACTIVITIES

· Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario since 1975

· Chairman of the Canadian National Committee to CISPR (the International Special Committee on Radio Interference) Sub –committee A, which deals with the measurement methods,  test equipment, and analysis of Emissions measurements, and  a member of the CISPR sub-committee since 2001

· Active member of sub-committee I, which writes the standards that apply to Multi-Media Equipment (involving both information technology and audio-visual) since 2001

· Member of the IEEE EMC Society since 1989

· Technical Assessor in EMC for the PALCAN program of the Standards Council of Canada
